DAVID KENWARD PHOTOGRAPHY
David is a self-taught photographer with Downs Syndrome. Based in York he has a passion for wildlife and wild places. This, combined with his keen observational skills and eye for detail, leads him to capture spontaneous moments which fleetingly pass; moving reflections in water, a sudden sunburst through clouds, a briefly settled butterfly or bird. This website is an attempt to showcase a collection of his varied work and observations of the world around him.
A keen photographer since receiving his first 'bridge' camera at the age of 18, David has been in the top 10 ‘highly commended’ of the annual National Down's Association ‘My Perspective’ photography competition since 2010, and won the competition in 2015 with his 'Misty Minster' photo of York Minster.
In 2012 he became involved with Heart & Sold, an initiative set up by Suzie Moffat to showcase the artistic work of people with Downs Syndrome. Through Heart & Sold David has seen his work exhibited in Macclesfield, Manchester, Keswick and London and most recently, New York. He has also hosted his first solo exhibition in York.
Some of David's photographs are available to buy as limited edition giclee prints through Heart and Sold
If you are visiting York a selection of framed and mounted prints are available in his Co-operative shop 'Blueberry at Silver Street' 5 Silver Street York
